Katie Fusco MOT, OTR/L

Katie joined Albemarle Therapy Center as an Occupational Therapist after receiving her Masters of Occupational Therapy from Shenandoah University in May, 2016 and undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2000. Katie is Early Intervention certified and enjoys working with families with young children through Early Intervention in Virginia. Katie appreciates working with a variety of school-aged children in the clinical setting to build functional skills including self-care, pre-writing and fine motor skills for children with diagnoses ranging from ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, feeding difficulties and physical disabilities. Katie specifically enjoys working with families with a multidisciplinary, collaborative team to support children with feeding difficulties and uses a combination of behavioral, motor and sensory approaches to increase acceptance of new foods, develop chewing skills and address oral aversions. Additional areas of interest include oral motor differences and oral structural differences, such as tongue and lip tie relative to feeding difficulties. Katie has received training on the CAN-EAT (Comfort, Acceptance, Nutrition) approach used by the University of North Carolina pediatric feeding team and has received mentoring from feeding professionals at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond. Katie and her husband have lived in Charlottesville since 2003. Together they find great joy in parenting their two school-aged sons.
